Overview
THE CHALLENGE
Abstract artist Nazgol Nayeri needed a new portfolio website that would authentically represent her vibrant work while providing a seamless user experience for gallerists and collectors.
MY ROLE
As the sole designer and developer, I was responsible for the end-to-end design process, from initial user research and strategy to final development and implementation.
Strategy & Research
To create a digital canvas that truly captured her vision, my process began with a clear strategy.
USER-CENTERED DISCOVERY
I conducted interviews with the artist to understand their key needs. Key findings revealed that users prioritized large, high-resolution imagery and a distraction-free viewing experience to appreciate the art's detail and scale. Gallerists also needed intuitive navigation to quickly find specific collections and contact information.
DESIGN GOALS
Based on this research, the core design principles were established:
Dynamic Display: The design must make the art feel alive and expressive.
Minimal Interface: The UI should be a supporting frame, not a distraction.
Intuitive Navigation: Users must be able to explore the artist's collections with minimal friction.
CLEAN DESIGN MEETS BOLD ARTISTRY
WIREFRAMING & PROTOTYPING
I began with low-fidelity wireframes to map out the user flow, focusing on a clean, single-page scroll layout for each piece to maximize the viewing area. This was followed by high-fidelity prototypes that refined the interactions and transitions.
A VISUAL DIALOGUE
The final design features a pared-down layout with the modern, geometric typeface to highlight the striking colors and forms of Nayeri’s abstracts. The minimal interface acts as a sleek frame, energizing and supporting her work's movement and intensity rather than diluting it.
